You should study engineering at Columbia

August 2025, age 22

College → specifically Columbia → specifically Columbia Engineering is so special because you learn about engineering within this rich context of the humanities (the Core Curriculum), and of humanity itself (being in New York).

When you study the Core Curriculum, you learn about our past stories, philosophies, histories, etc. to better understand what slow forces shape our world.

When you live in New York, you learn specificity about our world - people, institutions, their unique lives and their unique needs.

And when you study engineering, you learn to push the levers that move our world towards progress.

College is about figuring out who you want to be in the world, and I’m so glad this was the context I got to do so in.
